Volunteers
The PLAZA THEATRE maintains a Volunteer Program to help supplement the regular full time staff in a number of different areas. Volunteers contribute their time, talent and energy providing a vital function. They come from all walks of life enabling the theatre to operate more efficiently and better serve the theatre’s patrons who frequent the theatre and conservatory each day in operation. Volunteer services include the areas of ushering, data entry, tour guides, mail room attendants and gift shop attendants. They also assist with the educational outreach programs in a number of varied capacities on and off premise.

Volunteer Opportunities
Administration
Throughout the year, different departments within the Plaza Theatre request ongoing or specialized short-term assistance from Volunteers. Much of this work is clerical in nature such as filing, photocopying, shredding, etc. In addition, there is always a need for people who are computer literate in data entry and word processing. Assistance is occasionally needed to keep our accurate and up-to-date.
Marketing and Mail Processing
Marketing and Mail Processing Volunteers assist with the numerous promotional mailings that are generated from various departments during the course of the Season. This work may involve any combination of copying, collating, sorting, stuffing and/or labeling.
Telephone Committee
Telephone Committee Volunteers are responsible for all phone related activity received by or generated. Messages via live phone calls or voice-mail retrieval are channeled to the appropriate Plaza Theatre departments or personnel. This activity involves both regular hours of in-house phone coverage as well as occasional short notice situations. Short notice situations involve those instances when due to a last minute show cancellation patrons and/or ushers need to be contacted. It is imperative that Phone Committee Volunteers possess a very personable, pleasant and polite telephone manner.
Hospitality
Hospitality Volunteers assist in many areas of the Theatre and Conservatory inside and out. Volunteers assist in all areas of Hospitality service such as white glove door attendants, ushering, elevator attendance and assistance, walker and wheelchair organization, handing out flyers, playbills and other promotional media, and service in our concession area.Volunteers assist Plaza Theatre staff and caterers with many aspects of food and beverage service. Hospitality volunteers need to possess excellent customer service skills along with a neat, professional appearance. Basic knowledge of alcoholic beverage service, the ability to stand for long periods of time and a degree of agility to bend, lift and stoop are also necessary for these positions. Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
Educational Volunteer Assistance
The Educational Department requires the help of Volunteers to assist the full time staff in several different areas to include classroom and workshop assistance, reading and educational material filing, sorting, coping, stapling and mailing to students, educators and interested parties. The Educational Department may run several special events during the year for fund-raising and promotional requirements. Volunteer help is needed during preparation as well as during the actual day of the event. Other responsibilities may include telephoning, mailings, set-ups, organizational meetings, Volunteer scheduling, etc.Volunteers who are unable to commit to a specific time schedule each week may want to consider this option.
Ushers
Ushers act as a goodwill ambassador of the Plaza Theatre by assisting all Front of House staff in providing excellent customer service and insuring public safety. See the complete usher job description included in this package.
